p120 Fabric with Line and Form - Coat on the Chair

I chose a plain yellow coat for this task as it was easier to study the tonal variation than with a darker material.

For the first attempt, I used charcoal pencil. I had a few difficulties with the form here and a result, the fabric appears a bit transparent. The folds don't really have much depth to them.

For the second attempt, I used a graphite stick. I found this easier than the charcoal as I could vary the tonal range of the lines a little more easily.

I think that the graphite sticks also worked better for the 5cm detailed squares, as again I could have more variety of tone.

I had initially been daunted by this task, but I am fairly happy with the outcome.
