Helen Standing - Music Tutor (West Wales UK)

P20 – Doodling (part 1)

I was able to try a range of lines, patterns and shading as described in the sketch book. However I found it hard to replicate wavy lines at speed. I also found that lines drawn slowly were wobblier than those drawn quickly. I didn’t always have inspiration for what to draw so listened to music to give me some ideas and picked out words here and there to draw etc. Soft pastels smudged the most, conte crayons gave a medium smudge and oil pastels smudged the least. I also tried mixing/overlapping conte crayons / pastels / pencils / felt pens etc to see what combinations work. The following worked well: charcoal on pastel, pastel and pencil crayon on felt-tip. However charcoal on pencil crayon and felt tip on pastel wouldn’t leave much of a mark.

Doodling (part 2)

On the first part, I didn’t have that much inspiration for what to draw. So I attempted another whilst listening to music by Pretend Popstar to give me some ideas and picked out words/images to draw etc.
